After a few days in Beijing, my daughter and I took a bullet train to Shanghai for the remainder of our trip. We stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai International Tourism and Resort Zone.
Booking and Arrival
I booked a room with two double beds at a cash rate of around $90/night, including taxes. From the train station, we took a Didi (Uber) to the hotel.
The lobby was open and spacious:
The floors had directional signs projected on them, so it was easy to find our way around the hotel:
But don’t wear slippers!
At check-in, the desk agent recommended we add the breakfast buffet to our room. I don’t recall the exact price, but I remember it was much more reasonable than the cost of breakfast at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. I decided to add the buffet since there didn’t seem to be many restaurants near the hotel.
Our Room
Our room started with an open closet inside:
The bathroom was open to the bedroom (but we could close it off with rolling doors):
The beds were comfy:
The room had plenty of outlets and lights. The hotel provided bottled water.
The bathroom was large:
The hotel also has rooms that are geared for families and kids, with tents and play areas in the rooms.
Dining
I’m so glad we added the breakfast buffet. It was absolutely huge!
The buffet had a large selection of Chinese and Western food. We found so many tasty options! And look at these adorable kid stations:
The restaurant was open until 11:30 p.m. with an a la carte menu. We ate there for dinner on our last night and were very pleased with the wide selection.
There was also a small lounge in the lobby with snacks:
And an ice cream bar:
Downtown Disney was just down the street, which provided more great dining options.
Hotel Amenities
Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai International Tourism and Resort Zone had so many amenities that made our stay really easy. There is a free shuttle to Disneyland:
The hotel also has a shuttle to/from the airport, train station and the Bund waterfront area:
There is an indoor play area:
Games:
A gym and an indoor pickleball court (which I didn’t see but I asked about it):
The first floor also had a large laundry room with shoe dryers (important, since it rains so much there).
Final Thoughts
After spending a few weeks in Japan and China, it was nice to stay at a hotel that made everything easy. The free shuttle buses were so convenient, and the food selection was decently price and varied enough that we didn’t have to leave the hotel unless we really wanted to. We had no issues using Didi to get to other places in Shanghai. If you’re coming to Shanghai primarily to visit Disneyland, this hotel is a great choice.

Looks nice and modern, with good transfer option. The price seems high for China, but it geared toward foreigners.
