How many miles and points do I own? 2025 edition

April 30, 2025 By Nancy 1 Comment

Last year around this time, I divulged my miles and points balances in a blog post. Since then, my husband and I have opened 4 new credit cards to earn more miles. See Beginner’s Guide: 7 Steps to Free Travel with Miles and Points. We’ve also spent a significant chunk of points on our upcoming trips to Japan, China and Canada. Are we better or worse off than last year?

Just like money, we have more than some, less than others. And the balances fluctuate throughout the year. There is no “right” amount of miles and points to own. Of course, the more the better, as long as you don’t let them sit too long without spending them.

My Current Miles and Points Balances

Flexible points: These are my favorite points to own since I can transfer them to multiple airlines and hotels. Because I just transferred our Amex points to Hawaiian/Alaska, most of our flexible points are in Chase, Capital One and Bilt.

Total Flexible Points: 162,000 points

Airline miles:  I’m sitting on a rather large chunk (189k) of Air France Flying Blue miles due to my unsuccessful transfer/booking with phantom award space (see this post). I also own some not-so-useful miles in Lufthansa and TAP Air Portugal that will be more difficult to use. My most useful airline miles are my Alaska miles (156k) and Iberia/BA Avios (69k).

Total Airline Miles: 564,000 miles

Hotel Points: It’s been a while since I’ve earned a signup bonus on a hotel credit card because I’ve prioritized earning flexible points and airline miles. And, I’ve spent Hyatt points on our upcoming trip to Japan and China. So our hotel points balance is very low and spread across Hyatt, Hilton, IHG and Marriott. I’m ok with a low hotel points balance because my family of 5 prefers condo rentals for more space. Plus, we still have free night anniversary certificates from our IHG and Hyatt credit cards to use each year.

Total Hotel Points: 28,000 points

Upcoming Points: My husband upgraded his Amex Gold card to Amex Platinum, so we have 125,000 Amex points coming our way soon.

Total Points (including upcoming points not yet in account): 879,000 miles and points. That’s actually very close to what I owned last year at this time.

What am I going to do with all these miles and points?

We will use this  miles and points for 3 trips in 2026:

  • Spring Break trip to St. Maarten (already booked one way)
  • Summer trip to Thailand (for 2)
  • Summer trip to Europe (for 5)

And then, the cycle of earning and redeeming starts all over again.
