A few days ago, I wrote a post about a certain business credit card that might be easier to get approved for right now (see this post). According to this bank’s assumed rules, I would not be approved for this card because I’ve opened too many credit cards in the past 2 years. But, I saw some data points from other miles and points enthusiasts that suggested the bank might be a bit more lenient on approvals with this special offer.
So, I decided to be the guinea pig and try it myself. I applied for it last week, and my application went to pending. I promised blog readers that I would post an update. And I’ve got exciting news!!
I was approved!
Yesterday, I received a phone call from the bank. The rep said he just needed to verify my information. The only information he needed to verify was that I actually applied for the card. He then told me over the phone that I was approved! I received an email confirming my good news shortly after.
The card I’m talking about is the Chase Ink Business Preferred card. The current welcome offer is 100,000 bonus points after spending $8000 in the first three months.
- Earns 3X rewards on travel, shipping, internet, cable, phone, and advertising with social media sites (up to $150K spend per year)
- Points worth 25% more when redeemed for travel
- Cell phone protection against theft or damage
- No foreign transaction fees
- $95 annual fee
The bonus on this card is worth at least $1250!
I’m currently at exactly 5/24, which historically means I would not be approved for any new Chase cards. My credit score is over 800. I didn’t miscount my 5/24 status. Did I get lucky with my approval? Definitely. But, data points show that not everyone at or over 5/24 will be approved for this card. If you are at or over 5/24, you may still be denied. If you apply and you’re denied, you FICO score may temporarily go down a few points. For me, the risk was worth the reward.
My plans for the points
I can never have too many Chase Ultimate Rewards points. I may transfer some for future Hyatt hotel bookings. My family is also looking to travel somewhere big in 2025–maybe Japan. These points could be transferred to Virgin Atlantic to book flights on ANA to Japan. So many possibilities!
