I can’t believe my trip to Hong Kong is next month! It seems like I’ve been planning this trip forever. It’s just me and my daughter traveling. While I’m always game for saving money, I’m planning on a few splurges during this trip to make our vacation more convenient and memorable.
Private Airport Transportation
Two summers ago, my daughter and I arrived in Athens by ourselves very late at night. I had a hard time getting a taxi, and I vowed to be more prepared in the future. Since it’s just the two of us traveling alone and the journey to Hong Kong is long, I decided to book private transportation from the airport to our hotel. I just want to look for our name on a sign and collapse in a car without having to think. The cost is only about $10 more than a taxi, so it’s not even that much more expensive.
Glass Bottom Cable Car Upgrade
I’m really looking forward to riding the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car to the Big Buddha. For just $10 more than the standard fare, you can ride in a cable car with a glass bottom. While I’m afraid of heights, I can’t wait to see these views!
Taxi to The Peak
Based on a few emails from readers, we will likely splurge on a taxi to the top of The Peak instead of taking the tram. I’d rather not wait an hour in line for a 5-minute tram ride when there is an alternative.
Disney Explorers Lodge
Staying on-site at a Disney property is always more expensive. But, I’m not sure when or if we will ever revisit Hong Kong. So, splurging on Disney Explorers Lodge for a few nights was a no-brainer for me, especially at a rate of $260/night.
Character Breakfast
For our last full day at Hong Kong Disneyland, I booked a character breakfast at Dragonwind restaurant. It’s not cheap at $42 a person. But, I prefer to see characters this way rather than waiting in lines at the park.
What are you splurging on during your next trip to make travel easier or more spectacular?

You’ll be fine on the cable car. I’m afraid of heights too and while I didn’t look down too much at first it was actually pretty enjoyable.
I don’t know if you’re supposed to feed the cows on Lantau but cows really like bananas so if you had a few in your bag you might make a new friend. I’d check on restrictions first so my idea doesn’t get you injured.

@Christian Thanks for the tips! I hope I’m able to enjoy the scenery (after freaking out initially, I’m sure).
