My husband has a business trip coming up. Before he booked his hotel, he asked me if I had any requests for where he should book his stay. He knows this miles and points hobby well enough to know that depending on current promos or where we need to earn points, some choices are better than others.
I almost always encourage him to stay at a Hyatt. Why? Hyatt is my favorite hotel brand. I love that I can easily transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards from multiple credit cards to Hyatt. Plus, I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a bad Hyatt.
But this time, my request was more specific.
Hyatt Brand Explorer Award
The Hyatt Brand Explorer Award is a free night after you’ve stayed in 5 different Hyatt brands. The award is valid for a free night at Category 1-4 hotels.
To see your progress on the Brand Explorer Award, log into your World of Hyatt account and click on “My Rewards”. You will see all the brands listed with checkmarks by the brands you’ve visited.
I earned my Brand Explorer Award a few years ago, but my husband needs just one more brand to earn his. Now that Hyatt keeps adding brands to its portfolio (including all-inclusive brands), there are a total of 26 brands.
So, back to the business trip…My husband and I looked at the choices near his destination and saw that there is a jdV by Hyatt hotel that’s within his company’s price range. Boom, that’s the one! He booked it, and I can’t to get my hands on his free night award soon!
I haven’t gone out of my way to stay at a variety of different Hyatt brands to get a second award. But in my husband’s case, since the hotel stay is on the company’s dime, targeting his stay in a new brand is worth it.
Are you tracking your progress to a Hyatt Brand Explorer Award?

Just earned mine this month. It’s my first one. The nice thing is they give you credit when you use points so I didn’t pay anything for the room!

@Boonie Yes! Most if not all of my stays for my free night were on points. Glad you got one!
