The last big trip I took with my family was in early March over spring break. We had an absolutely wonderful time at Andaz Costa Rica Resort in Peninsula Papagayo. (See my full review here.)
I’ve been keeping my eye on this resort because my family would love to return. A few weeks after we left, the resort closed due to Covid-19. The website said it would remain closed until July 1, 2020.
Recently, the resort updated its webpage to indicate it will remain closed until November 1, 2020. Wow, that’s a long time span to be closed! Over 7 months.
Costa Rica Travel Restrictions
Currently, Costa Rica is closed to visitors until July 1, 2020. No tourist visas will be granted before July 18, 2020. Under the current rules, all visitors must quarantine for 14 days. Of course, these restrictions could change, and they likely will. Many countries are not ready to welcome Americans anytime soon.
The resort next door to the Andaz, the Four Seasons, currently says it’s taking reservations for stays beginning July 17, 2020. I’m curious if that resort gets more domestic visitors than the Andaz, or if it will also postpone its opening.
When we arrived at Andaz Costa Rica this past March, we had no idea how much would change just in that week we were there. I do wonder how the resort and its employees are doing during this long hiatus.
Will the Andaz Costa Rica survive the Covid-19 pandemic? I sure hope so!
