Why Hotel Gift Cards are Always on my Christmas Wish List

December 11, 2019 By Nancy 3 Comments

Every year, extended family members ask me what’s on my Christmas wish list. Of course, my wish list usually has travel-related items like travel books, luggage and experiences. But every year, I put hotel gift cards on the list as well. Why?

I Travel Frequently

My family’s travel has slowed down since my oldest son started high school. But, I still travel frequently throughout the year. In addition to visiting my mom a few times a year, I go on shorter weekend trips throughout the year with one kid at a time. Hotel gift cards come in handy for some of those nights!

I Don’t Treat Myself Often

Honestly, I’d love to have a spa treatment on every vacation. But I almost never treat myself to anything like that. But, if I was gifted a hotel gift card, I could book that spa treatment guilt-free. Or, we could splurge on a fancy dinner at a hotel restaurant without worrying about breaking our vacation budget.

The rare time I treated myself to a spa treatment was at Disney’s Aulani Resort. Worth it!

My Family Often Needs Two Rooms

Lodging for a family of five is tricky. When my kids were younger, we stuffed ourselves into a single hotel room, even if it meant bringing a blow-up mattress for our “extra” kid. Now that my kids are older, we can’t survive more than one night in the same room, even if it’s made to sleep 5-6 people. We need space, which means we book a condo or two separate hotel rooms. Booking two rooms takes a lot of hotel points, so it’s nice to have a gift card for the second room.

I Don’t Need More Stuff

The older I get, the less “stuff” I want. I hardly ever wear jewelry, and our house isn’t big enough to collect a lot of things. Travel is really what I enjoy.

Readers, what is on your wish list? Do you wish for travel-related things or experiences?

I am the same way! Less stuff, more travel please! But actually as I get older, I also like to just stay home and live my normal life. Just having that is a blessing to me. I am a simple gal 🙂
