One Day in Singapore

On our recent trip to Asia, my daughter and I only had a one-day layover in Singapore. We chose to spend most of that day at Gardens by the Bay. The city is immaculately clean and easy to navigate. Singapore is known as “Garden City”, and there are gardens everywhere, even on the freeways.

Gardens by the Bay

From our hotel, we took a quick Grab ride to Gardens by the Bay. This attraction has over 1.5 million plants from around the world and has the world’s largest greenhouse. I purchased our tickets online from Klook.com.

We first visited the Cloud Forest greenhouse. It currently has a Jurassic Park theme. It had waterfalls, dinosaurs, and of course many plants and flowers.

The paths wind all around the greenhouse, and we had some great views over the nearby marina.

Next, we headed to the Flower Dome greenhouse. This dome has rotating exhibits. When we were there, the exhibit was Blue Beauties, highlighting decor from Turkey.

So many flowers!!

Then, we walked in the park to get to the next greenhouse, Floral Fantasy. We had a great view of the nearby Marina Bay Sands resort:

Floral Fantasy greenhouse had a My Little Pony theme while we were there. My daughter used to love those ponies!

Floral Fantasy also had an indoor 4D movie theatre that we had all to ourselves.

Lastly, we explored the Supertrees. The Supertrees are sustainable vertical gardens with over 200 species of plants, and the tallest one is 16 stories high.

I was so excited to take the elevator up to the elevated walking path between the trees.

But, I underestimated the height of these trees, and I was freaking out! My daughter walked the entire path while I stood on a larger platform and took photos. The Supertrees have a light and music show at night that we did not get to experience.

While we enjoyed all the greenhouses at Gardens by the Bay, our favorite was the Cloud Forest.

Bugis Street Market

My daughter’s one request for Singapore was to visit a street market. After Gardens by the Bay, we had about an hour to explore Bugis Street Market. This is a huge street market with over 800 stalls that is open 24 hours a day. It was quite overwhelming!

Food, drinks, clothing, accessories…everything was there. My daughter loved all the clothing shops with cheap, fashionable clothing. She got several cute outfits for not much money.

Jewel

Jewel is a mall attached to Changi Airport. You could probably spend an entire day here, but we had just an hour. The highlight is the Jewel Rain Vortex:

This thing is simply mesmerizing to watch! The Rain Vortex has a light and music show in the evenings, which unfortunately we had to miss due to the timing of our next flight. Jewel has a few other attractions and some big Lego displays.

Overall Thoughts

Our one day in Singapore was fantastic. My daughter and I both loved the city. On a return trip, I’d love to check out Sentosa Island, Night Safari, Kampong Glam and more.
