I’m in a bit of a travel dry spell right now. With Omicron and the weather, I’m sure I’m not the only one laying low at the moment.
However, my mind still wants to dream about travel. So if I’m not doing it, I must at least plan it or watch it! Here are three shows I’m enjoying that satisfy my travel bug.
The Amazing Race
This show is now in its 33rd season. If you haven’t watched The Amazing Race (on CBS), you’re in for a treat. It’s like a world-wide scavenger hunt with breathtaking scenery, history and culture woven into the game.
When I was younger, I wanted to audition for this show. I thought my sister-in-law and I would make the perfect team. Unfortunately, I never auditioned. I know it’s never too late, but now I can’t see myself doing well on the show. There’s a lot of running with huge backpacks involved.
A few nights ago, the race had a leg in Switzerland. Teams took a gondola to the top of of Santis in the Appenzell Alps. From there, they hiked to a peak where they could see six countries. Amazing! I cannot wait to travel to Switzerland this summer!
Fun fact: My husband met Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race, at a charity bike ride in Texas.
Emily in Paris
For some reason, Emily in Paris on Netflix is a controversial show. Sure, maybe some of the story lines are a bit cheesy. But the scenery is spectacular! If you are at all interested in Paris, I recommend this show.
Places to Love
It’s no secret I’m a fan of Samantha Brown. Her show Places to Love made me fall in love with Switzerland and was the inspiration for my upcoming trip there. Even her episode on Houston made me see the city in a new light. Her latest season showcases locations within the United States. You can watch her show on PBS or on her website.

Besides the above, I recommend that you check out “The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals” and “Instant Hotel” – both on Netflix.

Thanks for the recommendations, Erik!

Check out Somebody Feed Phil, a documentary series on Netflix. The host, Philip Rosenthal (creator of Everybody Loves Raymond) visits cities around the world sampling local cuisine and culture.
Nancy says
@projectx Thanks, I’ll check it out!

Binged watched both seasons of Emily in Paris! It’s cute but quirky. My best friend recommended Bloodline after we stayed at Disney’s OKW resort, it takes place in KeyWest. It’s been cancelled but there’s 3 seasons.
Nancy says
@Boonie I’ve heard good things about Bloodline but haven’t watched it yet.

Didn’t the gay guys that won Amazing Race just get married? I prefer Rick Steves and movies to fluff shows. Check out the old Audrey Hepburn movie, Two for the Road, Colin Firth in Summer in Genoa or maybe the Ethan Hawke, Before Sunrise movie and sequels.
Nancy says
@DaninMCI Thanks for the recommendations!

This is my first comment/post here, but I’m not new to reading your blogs. Thank you for all the insights and info you’ve provided. I, too, am going to Switzerland this summer. Probably third try is the charm due to this pesky COVID.
I think the movie “Letters to Juliet” shows wonderful sites of Italy. It was the show that prompted me to plan to go back to Italy and see Sienna hopefully in 2023.

@Liz How exciting about your upcoming Switzerland trip! Thanks for the movie recommendation. I’ll check it out.
