My 18-year-old son is about to earn his first bank bonus!

January 12, 2023 By Nancy 3 Comments

I write a lot about credit card bonuses on this blog. But occasionally, I dabble in bank bonuses. Last year, I completed the steps to earn an easy $400 bonus with Regions. More recently, my husband and I opened Citi Miles Ahead accounts for bonus AA miles. And now, my son is following in our footsteps.

Chase College Checking

Chase currently has a $100 bonus offer on its Chase College Checking account. This account is for college students ages 17-24. It has $0 monthly fees for up to five years until you graduate from college.

Earn the $100 bonus by completing 10 qualifying transactions within the first 60 days of account opening. Qualified transactions include:

  • Debit card purchases
  • Online bill pay
  • Chase QuickDeposit
  • Zelle
  • ACH credits

Bonus arrives within 15 days after completing qualifying activity. This bonus offer expires 1/25/23.

My son was so excited when I told him about the $100 bonus offer. His college has a Chase branch on campus.

Since he is 18, he could apply for the account online. If you are 17, you must go to a branch to apply.

My son plans on fulfilling the 10 qualifying transactions through mobile QuickDeposits and debit card purchases.

Bottom Line

My son isn’t yet earning the big credit card bonuses. But, opening this new bank account with a $100 bonus was super easy and convenient.

My husband recently got a mailer offer for $550 to open a checking account. All we had to do was make a direct deposit. My husband made a quick change online for his paycheck and it posted the same day the direct deposit went in. I then opened one in my name. My offer was for $325. And just like that we have $875 in spending money for our upcoming anniversary trip to Quebec City (which was all paid for in points, of course). Winning!
