Capital One Steps Up with More Transfer Partners and Better Transfer Rates

April 20, 2021 By Nancy 1 Comment

See our Advertiser Disclosure and Editorial Note here.

I’m a big fan of my Capital One Venture Rewards card. It’s so simple and easy to use. Everything earns 2X miles, and you can redeem miles for travel expenses as a statement credit.

A few years ago, Capital One added some transfer partners. Still, I never took advantage of that benefit, and I continued to use my miles for random travel purchases.

But now, Capital One has stepped up with more transfer partners and better transfer rates. Starting today, Capital One now offers transfers to Turkish Miles & Smiles, British Airways Avios, and TAP Air Portugal Miles & Go. Later this year, Choice Privileges will be added to the transfer partner list.

In addition, Capital One is adding a 1:1 transfer tier for some partners including Avianca LifeMiles and Etihad Guest. See this post on Frequent Miler for a detailed breakdown of all the changes as well as “sweet spots” on partner airlines.

What Does This Mean?

This is all great news for family travel on miles and points. Having another bank with transfer options to airlines is a major bonus.

I’m most excited about the option to transfer to British Airways Avios. Since I live near an AA hub, I’ve used Avios to fly on AA metal for fewer points.

Does this change my future credit card application strategy? Probably. I may start looking at Capital One business cards more closely.

What do you think of these changes?

It’s a huge pain to keep track of and optimize which transfer partners to use for some of the post popular points/miles programs. I made a tool that I hope helps calculate the points needed based on a redemption you have in mind, based on some points valuations, see which one of these is the cheapest option for making the transfer.

You can check it out at https://transferpartnertool.com/ and leave any feedback on things I can do to improve it.
