This past weekend, I had the opportunity to try another hotel on one of my trips to Denver: Hyatt House Denver Airport. I visit Denver a few times a year, and over the past few years my family has preferred to stay downtown at the Grand Hyatt Denver.
However, since snow was in the forecast for the weekend and our visit was very short, I wanted to stay as close to the airport as possible. The on-site Westin Denver International Airport hotel was over my budget. So, I focused on the next nearest cluster of airport hotels. I picked Hyatt House Denver Airport because it has large rooms and a hot tub.
Arrival at Hyatt House Denver Airport
Upon our arrival at the airport, I called the hotel to ask for a shuttle pickup. The operator said the shuttle would meet us at Door 505, Island 3 in 15-20 minutes. By the time we walked to that location, we should have only had a 10-minute wait.
After waiting for 40 minutes without seeing the hotel shuttle, I called the hotel again. They said it would arrive in 5-10 minutes. A crowd of 17 people were now waiting for the shuttle. When it arrived, it was a van that wouldn’t fit us all. People were mad.
In total, it took us an hour to get from the airport to the hotel. In retrospect, I should have given up on the shuttle and just paid for a Lyft.
Location/What’s Nearby
The location of Hyatt House Denver Airport is perfect for late-night arrivals or early morning flights. It’s right off the main airport road just 4 miles from Denver International Airport.
If you’re without a rental car, there’s not much around the hotel. However, there is a 7-11 and a Village Inn restaurant within walking distance.
Our Room
Since it was just my daughter and me, we stayed in a King Studio Suite. It had a kitchen at the entrance:
A TV, desk and sofa bed:
The king bed:
Bathroom:
My daughter liked the divided room because she felt like she had her own space.
Free Breakfast
Breakfast hours on a Saturday morning were 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. The spread was very similar to the buffet offered at Hyatt Place locations. The main difference was this hotel has a made-to-order omelet station.
Pool/Gym
My daughter and I visited the pool area after breakfast. We had the whole place to ourselves.
The pool was heated, although I prefer the temperature to be a little warmer.
We spent most of our time in the hot tub. My family is kind of obsessed with hot tubs. We don’t have one at home (yet), so I try to pick hotels that have them. This hot tub needs to be re-painted on the inside, but we still enjoyed it.
Using Points
I opted to use cash for our stay since the rate was hovering around $100 for a weekend night. The hotel costs 8000 World of Hyatt points per night. You can get those points easily by opening up a Chase World of Hyatt card or by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt from a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
Final Thoughts
Hyatt House Denver Airport was perfect for our one-night stay. The late and overcrowded shuttle started us off on a bad foot, but the room was a nice size and we enjoyed the hot tub.
I still prefer to stay in Downtown Denver on longer visits. If I ever need to stay near the airport again, I would consider the new Hyatt Place Peña Station. It’s not much farther than the Hyatt House, but it’s located right at the train station, so we could avoid waiting for the hotel shuttle.

I hate this property. They are rude, don’t solve issues promptly, and don’t do the one thing that an airport hotel should do well: the shuttle. The shuttle is gross and not timely.
Nancy says
@Emily I agree with you that the shuttle sure needs improvement!
