The Official Sign-Up Bonus on Southwest Personal Credit Cards Is Reduced to 40,000 Points (Old Offer Still Available for Now)

October 27, 2016 By Leana 7 Comments

This is a quick post because I wanted to give you heads up on this new development. I don’t believe it’s been reported on blogs, but it looks like Chase has reduced the bonus on Plus and Premier versions of Southwest credit card. You will now get 40,000 points (instead of 50,000 points) after spending $1,000 in 3 months. Annual fee is not waved on either card. Business version still shows a bonus of 50,000 points. Here is direct non-affiliate link

Keep in mind, regular bonus on all three versions is 25,000 points, so technically, 40,000 points is the increased offer. Both affiliate and direct links on Plus and Premier now point to the lower bonus. However, you can still get 50,000 points on Premier card if you apply via someone’s referral link. Here is my referral link with application details. I’ll get 5,000 points per each approval. I don’t know how much longer it will be available, which is why I decided to dedicate a separate post.

It’s entirely possible that Chase will raise the official bonus to 50,000 points again, and that some sort of zombie  link will be available for a long time. I have absolutely no idea on what’s in store. I’m also not suggesting you should jump on this offer just because. There are better bonuses available, like Chase Sapphire Reserve. Also, keep in mind, Southwest cards are subject to 5/24 rule.

However, if you’ve been considering applying for Premier version in a near future, now may be a good time. Of course, if you can get approved for business version, you will be on your way to getting a Companion Pass (click this link and scroll down for more information on this perk). Just make sure to complete the minimum spending in January of 2017.

Readers, who is planning on applying for this card due to this new development?

Have referrals for SW Plus 50k with $2000 spend or 40k with only $1000 spend.

    SW Plus 50k- https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWeb/renderApp.do?PID=CFFD2&SPID=FHTS&CELL=600V&MSC=1530063807

    SW Plus 40k – https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWeb/renderApp.do?SPID=FNTQ&CELL=63HB&MSC=1530063807

    SW Premier 50k- https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWeb/renderApp.do?PID=CFFD2&SPID=FHV5&CELL=600G&MSC=1529340613

    SW Premier 40k – https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWeb/renderApp.do?SPID=FNTD&CELL=63HB&MSC=1529340613

Whatever you choose, best of luck. Can easily apply for 2 cards same day to combine hard inquiries into 1. Much appreciate signing up through my link as it will help my family fly as well! 🙂

Best way to get companion pass is to apply for both same day for 1 hard inquiry

Maybe I can apply for this in 2018 🙂 They’ll never approve me either — darn 5/24 rule!

@Stephanie It’s quite likely that the offer for 50K points will still be available via zombie link or referrals. There are so many deals, it’s impossible to take advantage of all of them. And who knows, 5/24 rule may be relaxed in the future as well. Slow and steady wins a race.

Same here. Plus, I got the card in March, so not eligible for the bonus.
