Quick Review: Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

July 19, 2024 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Note: I’m currently exploring Alaska with limited internet access. My responses to comments and emails will be delayed.

Europe 2024 Trip Report So Far: Back from 18-day Europe Trip, Review: Iberia Business Class DFW to MAD, Hits and Misses from my First MSC Cruise, DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station Review, Two Days in Amsterdam, Visiting Efteling the Dutch Fairytale Theme Park

On my recent European vacation, my award flight home included an overnight layover in Amsterdam. To make it super easy, I booked a one-night stay at Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol using 60,000 Hilton Honors points from a credit card signup (see Beginner’s Guide: 7 Steps to Free Travel with Miles and Points).

Getting There

After we disembarked our flight, we followed the exit signs and eventually made it to the main lobby of the airport. This lobby is directly above the airport’s train station. From here, we saw the first sign to the Hilton hotel:

With the help of some moving walkways, we walked about 10 minutes (indoors) to get to the entrance of the hotel:

Once inside, we took an escalator down one level to the hotel lobby:

I had no issues at check-in. Due to my Hilton Honors Gold Status, the desk agent informed me we had access to the executive lounge as well as free breakfast in the restaurant.

Our Room

I booked a room with two twin beds. Our room was on the same floor as the executive lounge.

In addition to the two beds, our room had a lounge chair and a desk.

My favorite part of the room was the windows:

We had a decent view of the airport, and we could watch airplanes taking off and landing through the windows.a view of a city from a window

The bathroom:

The only downside to the bathroom was that the wall between the shower and the room was a little opaque, as you can see the windows of our bedroom through the shower:

My daughter and I were thrilled that the hotel provided conditioner, since we didn’t have it on the cruise and at a previous hotel.

Free Breakfast

In the morning, I went to check out the free breakfast while my daughter opted to sleep longer. The buffet had many choices and offered a good variety of breakfast food:

Other Hotel Amenities

Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol also has a fitness center, indoor pool and spa. We did not have time to check out any of those. I did peek into the executive lounge, but we were too late for the nightly hors d’oeuvres.

Overall Thoughts

Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a convenient hotel for late night and early morning flights in and out of AMS airport. The indoor walkway is essential with all the rain in the Netherlands. While the airport is just a train ride away from Amsterdam Centraal Station, I wouldn’t stay at this hotel for extended Amsterdam sightseeing. It lacks the canals and city charm that the city center offers.
