A few days ago, I wrote about one-sided partnership between Bilt and Wells Fargo, where the latter got the raw end of the deal. In it I’ve mentioned that it’s highly unlikely that we will ever see a bonus on transfers to Alaska (its newest partner) or Hyatt. Well, turns out I was wrong.
If you are a basic member, you will get a 25% bonus on transfers to Alaska, on up to 50k Bilt points. If you have a higher status with Bilt program, your bonus will be even juicier. For Gold members with Bilt, there is also an opportunity to get Alaska MVP status for only 10k Bilt points.
A good deal?
I’d say it’s a hot deal for some. Only you can decide if Alaska program is valuable for your particular situation, but there are many reasons to consider this transfer. First of all, Alaska has just overhauled its program, so I would be less concerned about a devaluation in a near future. I can’t say the same thing about AAdvantage.
If you are planning a trip to South America, Alaska has compelling deals in economy and business class. Going to Asia? You can still redeem 60k miles from West coast to Japan on JAL business class, if you can find award availability. Planning a trip last-minute will likely be your best bet. If you live near Alaska hub or fly to one regularly, it’s a no-brainer to invest in Alaska miles. Of course, you will have to decide if transferring to Hyatt without bonus is equally compelling.
For what it’s worth, if I had a bunch of Bilt points, I would absolutely take advantage of this transfer deal. This may very well be a one-time opportunity to celebrate the new partnership. Of course, I don’t have a crystal ball.
Readers, are you planning to take advantage of this transfer deal?
