Update: This offer is no longer available. See our current credit card offers here.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep repeating it: The primary way my family affords to travel so much is because my husband and I apply for new credit cards when the welcome bonuses are high. We then use those miles and points from credit card sign-ups to book mostly-free travel. We apply for a few new credit cards each year, depending on what offers are out there and which ones we qualify for.
I have most of my travel for the rest of 2023 and 2024 already booked using miles and points. So, I’ve turned my focus to earning more miles and points for 2025 trips. It might seem early to be doing that, but I will start looking for award flights for an early 2025 trip in about 6 months.
New Approval: Capital One Spark Cash Select (Business Card)
I’ve been thinking about applying for a Capital One business card for the past few years, but I never found the right offer I wanted. Until now. Doctor of Credit recently posted that the welcome bonus for the Capital One Spark Cash Select card (non-affiliate link) has a $750 bonus after spending $6000 in the first three months. Here are the details:
- $750 cash bonus after spending $6000 in the first 3 months
- NO ANNUAL FEE!
- 1.5X cash back on all purchases
- If you have a Capital One personal card that earns miles, you can transfer these cash back “miles” (75,000) to your personal card and then transfer to Capital One airline transfer partners
Note that this non-affiliate offer is currently higher than the offer in our affiliate links. I’ll update the link if our affiliate changes to this higher offer.
The downsides to this card:
- Capital One pulls your credit history from all 3 credit bureaus instead of 1-2 like most other banks. This isn’t an issue for most people.
- You’re not eligible for the bonus if you’ve received a bonus on this card before.
- For some reason, this card counts against you on the Chase 5/24 counter, even though it’s a business card. For folks trying to get under 5/24 in order to apply for more Chase cards, this card approval will set you back.
- See Bank Application Rules for more information.
What I Plan to do with Welcome Bonus
I don’t have my 2025 travel plans solidified, but I do have some ideas. I’ll likely transfer these bonus miles to one of my Capital One personal cards and then transfer them to an airline partner. Capital One travel partners include:
- Aeromexico Club Premier
- Air Canada – Aeroplan®
- Cathay Pacific – Asia Miles
- Avianca LifeMiles
- British Airways Executive Club
- Choice Privileges®2
- Emirates Skywards
- Etihad Guest
- Finnair Plus
- Flying Blue
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
- TAP Miles&Go
- Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
- Virgin Red
- Wyndham Rewards
- EVA Air – Infinity MileageLands (2: 1.5)
- ALL – Accor Live Limitless (2: 1)
Who should get this business card?
Anyone who has a small business may qualify. See this post.
If you’re not worried about your 5/24 number (see Bank Application Rules) for Chase and you’ve already got some Chase business cards, this card is a good option.
For folks who don’t yet have any business credit cards, this isn’t the first card I’d recommend. For first-timers, I advise getting a Chase business card. You can’t get one if you’re over 5/24, but once you have the card, it doesn’t count against your 5/24 number. The Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card currently has a 100k welcome bonus, and the Chase Ink Business Cash and the Chase Ink Business Unlimited both have 75k welcome bonuses.
