Well, folks, it’s been a good run. If you’ve been enjoying status matching merry-go-round between MGM and Hyatt programs, your ride is about to come to a screeching halt. As first reported by OMAAT blog, this partnership will be ending September 30th. However, status matching will only be possible until July 14th. See full details on this page of MGM Rewards website.
So, if you’ve recently become a Hyatt Explorist, you should probably do a match to get a Gold status with MGM Rewards while you still can. You never know when it may come in handy. One of the benefits, of course, is the possibility of getting a free cruise. And if you happen to have Gold status with MGM, the same principle applies.
Having a Hyatt Explorist status is not a game changer, but it’s a potentially valuable tier. The biggest perk is the possibility of getting the best room in a specific category. For example, you may book a room with a view of a parking lot, but may end up with a view of the ocean.

RIP but I got a LOT of mileage of the status match. Lounge access and nice upgrades. All good things must come to an end….

@Tania Unfortunately, you are right! Most amazing deals in this hobby eventually end.

Oh, dang. I sure got a great use out of that Explorist/MGM Gold status. Three free cruises! And countless room upgrades. RIP, and thanks for the memories.

@Nancy Indeed! You made out like a bandit, and I’m very glad you did.
