I’ve Made a Hyatt Reservation for the Wrong Year…

This is a short post with a cautionary tale on how you need to be detail-oriented when it comes to miles and points hobby. Needless to say, I’m not.

So, awhile back I’ve redeemed  points on a suite at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs. We were supposed to stay there next summer, but a few days ago I’ve decided to move it to fall of 2022.  I called and the agent switched the dates with no issue. She did have to call the resort though, so it was a bit of a hassle. You know where this is going, right?

Anyway, just today I got an email notifying me that our exciting stay at the resort is almost here. What?! Turns out, the agent has switched the reservation to fall of this year instead of 2022. I think I told her the correct dates, but I’m not 100% sure.

This would only be possible with Hyatt, since unlike other chains, they open their booking window 13 months in advance.  Either way, it was on me to check the confirmation email for any possible mistakes. Ironically, just yesterday I’ve published a post stressing this very thing.

Thankfully, I was still within my cancellation window (72 hours). Btw, this resort often has a 14-day deadline, so I was very fortunate. If I couldn’t cancel it, well, we would have to go. I wasn’t about to lose 64k Hyatt points.

We wouldn’t be able to take the kids with us, since my in-laws have plans with them for that weekend. And I mostly booked this resort to take the kids. It would have to be a secret because my son would kill me if he found out we were enjoying the Hyatt lazy river without him. Fortunately, no deception will be necessary.

So, right now I’m on hold with the Hyatt agent, who is trying to get in touch with the resort so we can switch everything over to the new date. I apologized to her profusely for this nonsense of my own making.

So, the moral of the story is, be vigilant and pay attention to details so you don’t have to lie to your kids.

I’m excited to visit the Hyatt Residence Club in Bonita Springs next month through a presentation offer and redeemed points for an extra night. It will be my first time in this part of Florida which I always enjoy visiting other areas. The reviews seem promising especially the private island beach access.

Boonie, I really think you will love it! I never got a chance to visit Hyatt Residence Club portion, but I understand it’s a bit more low key compared to Regency. That’s a plus in my book. And you do have access to all the same amenities unless staying during holidays. I love their private island! The main reason I redeemed points on a suite in Regency is because it has two bathrooms.
