Limited Time: Transfer Citi Points to American Airlines

July 18, 2021 By Nancy 3 Comments

Breaking news: You can now transfer Citi ThankYou points to American Airlines. This is a limited-time deal valid today through  November 13, 2021. See this article on Business Insider.

Citi Premier and Citi Prestige card holders have a 1:1 transfer ratio to American Airlines. Other Citi cards with ThankYou points have a 2:1 transfer ratio (1000 ThankYou points equal 500 AA AAdvantage miles).

This is pretty big news, as this transfer has never been possible in the past. Currently, the Citi Premier has an 80k bonus after spending $4000 in the first three months. See my previous post for all the details.

Since I live near an AA hub (DFW), this transfer option makes the card even more attractive to me. More options on how to spend points is always welcome.

Are you excited about Citi’s new transfer partner?

I’ll be excited if it ends up being permanent.

I find it odd that Citi doesn’t allow this as it is. The other big dogs (Amex, Chase) feature transfers to their co-branded card partners. Why not AA?

Awesome news.I canceled my citi premier last year, so I have to wait 12 more months before I’m re-eligible 🙁
