Earn Southwest Companion Pass with One Credit Card Sign-up

Chase Southwest personal credit cards have a new sign-up deal that may be attractive to some families. Spend $5000 in the first three months and get 30,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points PLUS a Southwest companion pass valid through 2/28/22! Normally, you must earn 125,000 points to get the companion pass, so this is a quick shortcut.

Cards with this Offer

Chase currently has three credit cards with this welcome offer:

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card with $69 annual fee

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card with $99 annual fee

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Priority Card with $149 annual fee

Note that you can only have one personal Southwest card at a time. If you have received a bonus on a Southwest card in the past 24 months, you are not eligible for this bonus. Chase’s 5/24 restriction applies.

Using the Companion Pass

My family has had Southwest companion passes in the past, and they really helped us save money on flights. You can designate a companion to fly with you for free (just pay taxes of $5.60 for domestic flights). The best part is that the companion flies free if you book your flight on cash or with points.

At one point in time, my husband and I both had Southwest companion passes. So instead of using cash or points for five people, we only had to pay for three of us. It made a huge difference!

Note that this special companion pass with the credit card bonus is only valid for about a year instead of up to two years like the traditional companion pass.

Unfortunately, for many people, this companion pass will not be very useful this year due to the pandemic. However, if you have big travel plans for later in the year or early 2022, this offer could be valuable.

Readers, let me know if you plan to jump on this offer!
