Why I Bought a Frontier Airlines Discount Den Membership

I haven’t flown much on Frontier Airlines. In fact, I only remember flying on Frontier in the early ’80s as a kid living in Denver. At that time, it was a completely different airline.

But, I have been watching Frontier’s low price promotions and the Kids Fly Free promotions over the past few years. I recently decided to jump in and buy a Discount Den membership.

What is Discount Den?

Discount Den is a paid membership program for Frontier Airlines that offers members special low promo prices and Kids Fly Free on select flights. The cost is $59.99 per year, and the membership automatically renews unless you cancel.

As a member, you can get the promo prices and Kids Fly Free benefits for up to six people on a reservation. I currently see flights as low as $11 one-way on the website.

Note that Frontier ticket prices do not include baggage fees or assigned seat fees.

My Reasons for Buying Discount Den Membership

For the past 5-10 years, my family has mostly flown on Southwest for our domestic flights. But due to Chase’s 5/24 rule, companion passes have been harder to get. Lately, we’ve been relying on low airfare prices with reimbursement using points from my Capital One Venture Rewards card.

Frontier flies nonstop from Dallas to Denver and Orlando, two cities my family frequently visits. I’ve been watching fares to Orlando for a trip in 2021, and I was tempted to make the leap when the Discount Den fare was $45 one-way. But when the price lowered to $39, I snatched it up.

My entire family of five can get the fare with just one Discount Den membership. Since we will be staying in a DVC condo, we are packing light and doing laundry during our trip. We will only have to pay for two suitcases.

The seat pitch on Frontier’s planes is not great (30-32 inches according to SeatGuru.com). But, flights to Denver and Orlando from Dallas are only about two hours long.

Because I will be able to access the Discount Den fares for an entire year, I hope to get some good deals on a few trips to Denver and another trip to Orlando next fall.
