All 3 personal versions of Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card are currently offering 75k bonus points. The usual bonus on these cards is 40k or 60k. Woohoo!
Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Card –$69 annual fee
Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card–$99 annual fee
Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Priority Card–$149 annual fee
75,000 points are worth over $1000 in free travel!
Where Can Southwest Points Take You?
Southwest has flights to 101 destinations within the U.S. and in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Last year, Southwest started flying to Hawaii!
My family has used Southwest Rapid Rewards points to fly to Florida, Colorado, New York City, Mexico and more!
What I Love About Flying Southwest Airlines
I love that Southwest doesn’t charge baggage fees. In addition, I love that I can change my flights when the price goes down and get points refunded to my account.
Since I live in Dallas/Fort Worth, I love that Southwest flies out of the less congested airport, Love Field (instead of DFW Airport).
Applying and Getting the Bonus
If you haven’t applied for many new credit cards recently, you’re likely eligible for these cards. Chase has a 5/24 rule in place where it won’t approve folks for a new card if they have gotten 5 or more new cards (from any bank) in the past 24 months. See this post for more information.
The bonus structure on these cards is tiered. Spend $1000 in the first three months to get 40,000 bonus points. Spend $5000 total in the first six months and get an additional 35,000 points. So to get the full 75k bonus, you must spend a total of $5000 in the first six months.
You can only have one Chase Southwest personal card at a time. You won’t be eligible for the bonus if you have received a bonus on any Southwest personal card in the past 24 months.
Earning the Southwest Companion Pass
If you earn 125,000 Southwest Rapid Reward points in a calendar year, you get a Southwest Companion Pass. This pass allows you to bring a companion with you on your flights for free (just pay taxes). Whether you book with cash or points, your companion flies with you for free.
If you own a small business, you can sign up for a business version of the Southwest card to accrue more points towards the companion pass.
My family has earned a Southwest Companion Pass in the past, and it was a great deal for my large family!
Which Southwest Card is Right for Me?
Each Southwest card has its advantages.
The Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Card has the lowest annual fee at $69. You get 3000 bonus points each year when you renew.
The Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card has a slightly higher fee ($99), but it comes with 6000 bonus points each year when you renew. It has no foreign transaction fees.
The Chase Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Priority Card has the highest annual fee at $149, but it comes with more benefits. You get 7500 bonus points when you renew the card, plus you get a $75 travel credit each year. The card also gives you 4 upgrade boardings each year and 20% off drinks and WiFi.
I do not know how long this 75k offer will be around. Where will you fly with these points?

After you meet the spending requirements with this Southwest offer you would get 75,000 points. That is the highest offer I have seen, so there is some concern I have about potential point devaluing in the future. Typically the offers are for 50,000 points.
The great thing about Southwest is it’s free baggage and free cancellation. Twice every year Southwest usually has a big sale in June and October. If you booked a flight today with points and saw a cheaper price in October you could just re-book.
The offer ends February 18. This is a credit card bonus offer. If you currently have a personal Southwest Chase card you are not eligible. You have to meet the spending requirements to receive 75K points. Just meeting the spending requirement for 40K points would not be worth it.

I realize this is about the personal cards, but no mention of the new business card offer?

70k points after $5k spend in 3 months, additional 30k bonus after spending an additional $20k total spend. within 6 months (total time, not 9 months total). That earns you the companion pass with just one credit card.
Nancy says
@projectx I haven’t dedicated a post to this card because it requires $25k total spend. But maybe I should…. 🙂
Are you going for this deal to get the companion pass?
projectx says
I wish… well over 5/24.

Nancy, when you say that 75k points are worth $1000 in free travel, how do you figure that out?
Nancy says
@Sara That is a conservative estimate based on 1.4 cents per point (which is $1050). The points amount is variable, sometimes you can get 1.5 cents or more. The points you will need for a Southwest flight depends on the cash price of the ticket.

Since we’ve been working on getting side gigs going we’ve been focused on small biz cards like the chase ink and biz unlimited so we are both at 0 or 1/24 now. Looks like it may be worth applying for, particularly if we can get a companion pass out of applying for a personal and a biz card. We’ll be Lowering credit lines to prepare for applying, and once we’re done with some current minimum spends well give this a shot. It would be nice to have a nice, long window to meet spend too since we are pretty focused on doubling our savings rate this year so I’d like to keep our psychological incentive to spend at a minimum! Well see how chase feels about giving us a few new cards. Wish us luck!

Good luck! Getting the companion pass would be great!
