It looks like this method is currently working again (hat tip to DoC). I was just able to extend my husband’s Explorist status. I don’t know how long this option will be around, so I suggest you do this without delay. It will only take a few minutes of your time.
Keep in mind that unfortunately, new Club upgrades will have an expiration date of February 2020 (like current ones in your account). Still, even if you have no use for them, Explorist status is nice to have because it should give you an upgrade to the best available room, plus a few other perks.
Here are the steps:
- If you don’t currently have MLife Gold status, you will have to get it first via match from Hyatt Explorist. Scroll down this page and click on Opt In.
- Once you get matched to MLife Gold, open a separate tab and log in to your MLife account
-
Click this link to match MLife to Hyatt online
You will probably get this error:
Log out of your Hyatt account and link to match MLife to Hyatt again. If everything goes according to the plan, your Explorist status should now have an expiration date of February 2020, and you should be able to see 4 new Club upgrades:
I recommend you do it without delay because these opportunities often die quickly. Hyatt may kill this loophole for good. Besides, starting in March, Hyatt Explorist status obtained via match will no longer give you Club upgrades.
In related news, the current offer on Chase Hyatt credit card is supposed to expire on January 9. Read this post for more information on the current offer.

I used once last year at the Hyatt Baha Mar and it was a great money saver. I might go to Orlando this year and I might use at the Grand Cypress. I wish I could gift to friends. I have a co-worker going to Baha Mar and she could use the club certificates to save some money.

Yeah, I got seven Club certs and maybe will use one, if that. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a way to gift them. The only way you can get your coworker to use it is by making a reservation in your name and adding her as an additional guest. It should work, but there is always a chance the property will have an issue with it.
I recommend reaching out to the manager via email and asking him/her if it’s OK. It’s best to be upfront, and most properties don’t really care. That way your friend will have some sort of proof. But usually, The second guest is allowed to check in. Something to think about!
