This is a quick post with a reminder on a lucrative opportunity available to those who don’t apply for credit cards often. I’m talking, of course, about Southwest Companion Pass. See more details in this post
Yesterday Nancy has highlighted a few lucrative personal credit card offers, currently available on the market. However, if you have an actual business, you may want to look into business cards instead. One offer that stands out at the moment is Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business card.
Highlights:
- Earn 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open.
- 6,000 bonus points after your Cardmember anniversary.
- 2 points per $1 spent on Southwest® purchases and Rapid Rewards® hotel and car rental partner purchases.
- 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
- Earn points on employee spending
- Employee cards at no additional cost
- No blackout dates when you redeem points, no seat restrictions, bags fly free®, and no change fees
- No foreign transaction fees
- Annual fee of $99 is not waived.

Who should consider applying for this card now
To be sure, this isn’t the most lucrative bonus on the market when it comes to business cards. The true value lies in eventually qualifying for Companion Pass. In order to receive it, you need to acquire 110k Southwest points within a calendar year. This will allow you to take one companion for free during that year, as well as the following year.
Not all activities qualify, but points from the sign-up bonus do as of now. Of course, no guarantees, as things may change between now and the time they hit your Southwest account. Many things in this hobby require a leap of faith, and this is one of them. Plus, you will still have highly valuable 63k Rapid Rewards points regardless.
But what about the other 47k points? For now, I would hold off applying for personal Southwest card because I have a feeling that the bonus will be increased to 50k points in a near future. Update: our reader Agnes has mentioned that you may be able to find a flyer for 50k offer at a Southwest airport kiosk.
As far as I know, the official offer on a Southwest business card has never been higher than 60k points. Just make sure that you complete the minimum spending after January 1st 2019.
If all goes well, you should get over 110k Rapid Rewards points in your account within the first few months of new year. Hello, Companion Pass! As many of you probably know, Southwest is on track to start flying to Hawaiian islands in 2019. So, your pass will be highly valuable for that particular destination.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with simply using points to visit family in a neighboring state. Southwest points are worth approximately 1.4 cents apiece towards Wanna Get Away fares, and prices tend to be competitive. If you have a co-branded Southwest credit card, you can redeem them towards valuable gift cards at 1 cent apiece. The possibilities are endless.
Southwest points have allowed us to visit Jamaica, Niagara Falls, cover positioning flights to South Pacific and more. The memories are truly priceless.

I applied for the business card the very next day after being 4/24, approved thru your link. Will apply the personal card next month with 31 days between applications. That will be my 8th Chase Cards which make me nervous about the shutdown. There is 50,000 point offer if you apply thru Southwest stand on certain airports.

@Agnes First of all, thanks so much for your support! Rest assured, Nancy and I don’t take it for granted. I know there are many bloggers you can support instead, so your vote of confidence is much appreciated. 🙂
Thanks for the tip on the availability of 50k offer on personal cards. I will update the post. As far as the risk of Chase shutdown goes, it is always a possibility. You may want to wait a few months before applying for personal card, just in case. Also, can you cancel some of your existing Chase cards? It is my firm belief that the less accounts you have with Chase, the better chance you have at instant approval. If the app goes into manual review, that’s how the shutdowns happen. That said, you will most likely be fine.
