This is a quick post to share some exciting news. In an unexpected twist, IHG and Chase have backpedaled on their unfair decision to only award unrestricted certificates to those who have applied for the old version of Chase IHG card between 1/1/2018 and 04/05/2018.
But they took it a step further. In a wonderful gesture of goodwill, IHG has announced that ALL renewal certificates issued before May 2nd, 2019 will be unrestricted:
They have confirmed it to various Twitter users, where IHG has stated May 2nd, 2019 as a cut-off date, which is why I’m comfortable sharing the info.
That means that I’ll be able to stay in Kimpton Zamora St. Pete beach after all (costs 50,000 points), while using our anniversary certificates. This new development just goes to show that it never pays to rush into canceling cards as a gut reaction, unless the annual fee is due. You never know how things will play out in the end.
Overall, I applaud Chase and IHG for making things right and going above and beyond. Thumbs up! I would keep the card regardless, but this makes it a total no-brainer.
Readers, are you as excited as I am? Where do you plan to burn the cert in light of this announcement?
(Hat tip to OMAAT where I saw this news first.)

Enjoy! I missed it by a month. Oh well! For some reason, I always have issues trying to find a use for it because we only have one.

@Stephanie Oh, that’s too bad!

Nice! I just happened to send a SM to Chase yesterday over my disappointment over the restricted award night. Clearly my displeasure was the tipping point 😉

@Kacie It definitely was a tipping point! 🙂
