(Now Live) New IHG PointBreaks List Preview: October 30, 2017 through January 31, 2018

October 27, 2017 By Leana 5 Comments

Just a quick post to let you know that IHG blog has a full preview for new PointBreaks list. You can view it here  Each reward night at participating hotels will cost 5,000 IHG  points for bookings and stays from October 30, 2017 through January 31, 2018. So, you won’t be able to reserve them at this rate till Monday. Keep in mind, many properties become bookable first thing in the morning, so  check the website throughout the day if you have an eye on a specific hotel.

I don’t see anything super exciting in US, but if you are going home for the holidays, you may find a gem or two in the vicinity. And paying 5,000 IHG points per night sure beats sleeping on someone’s couch, doesn’t it? I’m sitting this one out, though. That said, here are few properties that I think will fall off the list fast:

FLORIDA

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jacksonville W – I295 and I10
  • Holiday Inn Express Naples South I-75

NORTH CAROLINA

  • Crowne Plaza Hickory

ILLINOIS

Crowne Plaza Chicago – Burr Ridge

COLORADO

  • Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Denver Tech Center – Centennial

ARIZONA

  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Wilcox

CALIFORNIA

  • Holiday Inn Express Rocklin – Galleria Area
  • Holiday Inn Express Mira Mesa – San Diego

You have a few options to get the points right now if you don’t already have them in your IHG account:

1) Transfer the points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG  1:1 if you have Chase Sapphire Preferred, Reserve or Ink Preferred cards. Per reports, the points don’t always transfer instantly.

2) Buy them directly from IHG at a cost of 13.50 per one thousand points. LINK (right now there is a promo going on that will give you 100% bonus on purchased points).

3) You can also buy them via “Cash+Points” trick, where you make a reservation at a random IHG hotel, then cancel it and get the points refunded. That way, they end up costing 0.7 cents each. You have to have 5,000 points  to begin with. I don’t endorse this method and IHG may suspend your account if you do it too many times, but it’s there if you are willing to risk it.

If you are interested in a specific property, I recommend you book it right away. Reserve with points now, ask questions later since you can always cancel and get your points back. Obviously, don’t book hotels if you don’t intend on staying there. Start checking on Monday morning because some hotels update the rate before the official announcement is made. You are allowed two reservations per IHG account, but they can be for as long as you like.

Guys, please share your PointBreaks plans with me!

I made a reservation at HIX Mira Mesa San Diego in January for a long weekend. I was hoping for another reservation too in November, but alas, they were all out of award availability.

I’m pretty pleased that I was able to use take advantage of this PointBreaks list. 🙂

@winni3 That sounds great! I know San Diego is a very expensive hotel market, so this is a deal, for sure. Really, any hotel for 5,000 IHG points is a deal. I thought about going to HIX in Naples, but we have way too many plans as is.

Let me know how you like it! Honestly, just free breakfast alone is worth 5,000 IHG points for a family of four.
