1) A pretty amazing offer has popped up on Amex Platinum Mercedes Benz card. You get 75K Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 in 3 months. So, it’s doable for normal families.
A huge elephant in the room is $475 annual fee, not waived. However, as of now, you can buy airline gift cards (unofficially) and get reimbursement of up to $200 per calendar year.
Note that this is a loophole that may not work by the time you get the card. The terms say that credit is only valid for incidental airline fees like checked baggage charges. Still, all in all, a pretty hot deal, and I may end up applying. You can transfer MR points to a variety of airline programs, get gift cards to places like Home Depot or redeem them for travel charges and get 1 cent per point.
The offer is supposed to be around till 6/22/2016, so you have some time to think about it. There are other perks like lounge access, but those mean very little to me. More details and direct application link on Danny Deal Guru blog.
2) One of my readers has forwarded me this post How to use VPN to Get Amex Big Offers She was able to pull up Amex Everyday (no annual fee) application with 25K MR points sign-up bonus by using this method.
This is all quite confusing to me, but those of you who are more IT inclined will probably be able to figure it out in minutes. Definitely worth a shot. I’ve also written a post on how you can find best offers on American Express that listed other methods.
3) A post on Money Metagame on a possible way to get a 7% CD for 7 months on up to $7,000 deposit. Hmm, I smell a pattern. Obviously, some work is required, but it’s a pretty good deal indeed. BTW, Money Metagame is a unique blog that you should probably follow.
