In all likelihood, if you are an IHG member, you probably have received this email:
Obviously, the reason for this sale is the hurricane season and the fact that the kids are in school. So, why am I writing about it? Because some of these places (like Aruba) lie outside of the hurricane belt, and happen to be served by Southwest and Spirit. If you utilize Fort Lauderdale-Aruba route and happen to have Spirit MasterCard, it will cost only 5,000 miles roundtrip on certain fall dates.
So, if you are willing to take kids out of school for 1 or 2 days, you could have an extremely affordable getaway. You could also potentially hit “cash+points” requirement on the new Accelerate promo, depending on your offer. Take a look at Aruba Holiday Inn:
This is extremely cheap for a beachfront Caribbean property, especially considering the fact that paid rates hover around $178 per night in the low season. Yes, the room has two double beds, but if you have Chase IHG co-branded card that comes with Platinum status, you will have a good shot at an upgrade. Also, since it’s a Holiday Inn, kids under 12 eat free with paying adults. Plus, like I said, you can potentially even complete a hurdle on the new IHG promo.
There is no question that it’s hard for most families to take advantage of this type of low-season deals. But if you have a good stash of Rapid Rewards or Spirit miles, AND have your kid in a school with non-draconian truancy policy, it could be worth considering.
Readers, is anyone planning to take advantage of this deal?
