I am referring to the upcoming conference in miles and points world. As far, as my weather forecast, it’s probably wishful thinking. Let’s face it, it’s smack in the middle of a hurricane season. I wasn’t sure, if I would go. If you read my posts, I probably come off as confident, slightly arrogant and a little “full of it”. In reality, I am very insecure, not arrogant, but yes, a little “full of it”.
I am very afraid , that all the cool kids will make fun of my little blog behind my back or even to my face (gulp). But, since I live 1.5 hours from Tampa, I decided to take my chances. I look forward to meeting mr. Leff, Daraius, Summer , the mad scientist aka Frequent Miler and Becky from “New girl in the air”. I am on the fence about Seth from “The Wandering Aramean”. On one hand, I get a kick out of his take on things. On the other hand, I have a strong suspicion, that he turns into a vampire by night. Maybe I can meet him, before the change occurs? As far as sessions go, I am mostly interested in Ben’s presentation on award booking.
So, here is a little glimpse into my life, to save time at the event. I grew up in Europe in a poor family. Because of that, going to Rome was as likely, as going to Mars. Ironically, it took a move to US, for me to finally be able to explore all the ancient sites, I read about as a child. You probably can’t tell it from my blog, but as a teenager, I won some competitions, based on my writing skills. That, coupled with the fact, that I graduated at the top of my class, meant, that I was accepted to the top university in the country on a full scholarship.
I do not rank people, based on their education, however. The smartest person, I have ever met, did not go to college and cleaned businesses for a living. My plan was always to continue writing, but somehow it just never materialized. So, at the height of blogs saturation in this industry, I finally decided to pursue my passion, while helping families like mine, travel on a budget. Great timing, no?
I don’t hold status in any airline , hotel chain (other than through credit card), or country club. If those things are critical to you, I will probably disappoint. I have nothing against first class, and even enjoyed it once, after getting bumped from the flight. If I had millions of miles, I would only fly upfront. But I don’t, so I won’t. My goal is to fly on award tickets for as long, as the banks will let me.
So, please, come say “hi”. I will be the tall, older (I am in my thirties) lady, nervously looking around. I am still wondering, if I should just sell that ticket on Ebay. But, I am hoping for clear blue skies, even if not in the weather department.
