Yes, it’s tax time! I just filed mine last weekend. Of course, I’m always looking for an angle to earn miles and points.
I’ve used TurboTax online for many years, and usually I go through the Southwest Airlines shopping portal right before I file to get 1000 bonus Southwest Rapid Rewards points. However, I don’t fly on Southwest as much anymore. This year, I decided to see if there are better options.
Finding Miles/Points/Cashback for TurboTax
The first place I looked was CashBackMonitor.com. This is always a good place to start to see what various cashback portals offer.
Southwest Airlines currently offers the highest points for going through their travel portal compared to the other airlines. However, CashBackMonitor doesn’t show all offers that may be available on your individual credit cards. Here are some offers I found on my credit cards in the “shopping offers” and “merchant offers” sections online:
Citi Strata Elite: 30% back (up to $20)
Chase Sapphire Preferred: 30% back (up to $20) + 10% off federal Turbotax products
Capital One VentureX: 4X miles for new customers or 2X miles for existing customers + 10% off federal Turbotax products
American Express Platinum: Spend $40 or more, get $20 back
All of these offers required going through a specific link and couldn’t be stacked with another cashback portal. TaxAct is also offered on most of these shopping portals.
This year, I decided to go through my Chase link to get 10% off plus $20 back. It’s not huge, but it’s something.

I think it is cheaper to buy the software from Costco which includes $10 to file State taxes as well.
