FBI Investigates Suspicious Death on Carnival Cruise Ship

November 9, 2025 By Nancy Leave a Comment

According to several news sources, the FBI is investigating a suspicious death that occurred on the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. The ship departed on November 2 from PortMiami for a 6-night Caribbean cruise and returned to Miami on November 8 in the early morning as scheduled.

The death occurred on Deck 8, and passengers on that deck were requested to disembark the ship earlier on Saturday in order to make room for investigators near their staterooms. According to cruisehive, some passengers received this communication the night before arrival in PortMiami: “Authorities will be joining the ship first thing upon arrival to complete an investigation and will be in the area of your hallway. It could be noisy and disruptive, so we kindly ask that you be out of your stateroom by 7:00 am.”

Details on the incident and cause of death are sparse. The FBI’s statement says: “I can confirm that the FBI has responded to the scene. Because this is an ongoing matter, no further information is available at this time.”

Of course, rumors are swirling on social media. Several guests on board the ship claim the victim is an 18-year-old female.

According to Cruise Law News, Carnival is the cruise line leader for onboard crimes. However, homicides on cruise ships are extremely rare, although statistics are hard to find. Most of the 200 deaths per year on cruise ships are from natural causes.

The image shows a large cruise ship named "Carnival Horizon" docked at a port. The ship has multiple decks with rows of windows and balconies. There are lifeboats visible on the side of the ship. The sky above is cloudy, and there are trees and people walking in the foreground.
