Why I’m Excited about JetBlue’s FLL Route Expansions

September 11, 2025 By Nancy Leave a Comment

Yesterday, I read that JetBlue is expanding is routes out of Fort Lauderdale FLL Airport. The airline is bringing back several routes that it had discontinued a few years ago, including:

  • Aruba (AUA)
  • Cartagena, Colombia (CTG)
  • Grand Cayman (GCM)
  • New Orleans (MSY)
  • Pittsburgh (PIT)
  • St. Maarten (SXM)

In addition, JetBlue is adding flights to these “new” destinations:

  • Cali, Colombia (CLO)
  • Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)
  • San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP)

Most of these routes are already for sale on JetBlue’s website. JetBlue is clearly going after Spirit Airlines business out of FLL airport.

Why I’m Excited

This announcement thrills me for several reasons. First, I’m happy to see another option for flights out of St. Maarten SXM, as my family is flying there for spring break next year. Thus far, flight prices for our return trip home have been sky high, and I’ve held off on booking. While JetBlue doesn’t fly from SXM to DFW (my home airport), we can get very reasonable flights from SXM to FLL:

The image shows a flight booking option for JetBlue. The flight departs at 3:10 PM and arrives at 6:20 PM, with a duration of 3 hours and 10 minutes, and is nonstop. The route is from SXM to FLL. The retail price is $192. It is labeled as a "Good deal" and is currently live. The flight is in economy class. There are options to book using points: 7,000 points with Chase Ultimate Rewards or Citi ThankYou, plus $86.00, or 7,000 points with JetBlue TrueBlue. There are 10 additional ways to book.

In addition, I’m excited to see another airline flying to Liberia, Costa Rica. My family traveled there in 2020 and had a wonderful time.

And lastly, I’ve never flown on JetBlue! The airline has a decent reputation and low prices, and I’d love to give it a try. Unfortunately, it has very limited flights out of DFW, so I’d likely have to book positioning flights to FLL on another airline to fly on JetBlue to the Caribbean.

Are you excited about any of these new JetBlue routes out of FLL?
