The #1 way that my family travels the world is by earning miles and points from new credit card welcome bonuses. See Beginner’s Guide: 7 Steps to Free Travel with Miles and Points. Right now is a good time to apply for a new credit card since there are several with higher welcome offers.
Chase Sapphire Reserve 125k Bonus
The old offer on the Chase Sapphire Reserve was 100k points + $500 travel credit. Surprisingly, when that offer expired, the new offer is 125,000 bonus points after spending $6000 in the first 3 months. So, the $500 travel credit has been traded for an additional 25k points which gives you more flexibility if you need to transfer points to airline or hotel travel partners. The annual fee on this card is $795, which is offset by a $300 travel credit plus $500 in statement credits for stays at The Edit hotel.
Chase points have been extremely valuable to my family. I’ve booked travel through the Chase portal as well as transferred points to Hyatt, Southwest, United and more.
Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Mastercard 70k or 50k Bonus
Barclays will no longer partnering with American Airlines go-forward (Citi will have exclusivity), but this card should stick around until the end of September. There are currently 2 offers:
50k miles after one purchase ($99 annual fee waived the first year)
70k miles after one purchase and paying $99 annual fee (although the link seems to be down as of now?)
I’ve had great luck using AA miles to book discount Web Special Awards from DFW to various domestic locations. For Spring Break 2026, I booked flights to St. Maartin for just 10k AA miles each!
Barclays Hawaiian Airlines 80k Bonus
The Barclays Hawaiian Airlines card (non-affiliate link) has an elevated bonus of 80,000 miles after spending $2500 in the first 90 days. The annual fee is $99. These miles will transition to the Alaska/Hawaiian merged Atmos Rewards program in October. Alaska miles have been very useful to my family for short-haul awards on partner American Airlines.
There is also a business version of this card available, although the bonus offer isn’t quite as compelling.
Alaska Atmos Visa Cards: Up to 100k Bonus
Earlier this week, I wrote about the new Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Credit Card (non-affiliate link). The bonus is 100k points after spending $6000 in the firs t90 days, plus a 25,000 companion award. The card has a $395 annual fee, but many benefits including waived partner award fees, free baggage, lounge access and more. See my prior post here.
In addition to that card, the Ascent card, which has a $95 annual fee, has a welcome bonus of 80,000 points after spending $4000 in the first 120 days. The business version of the card also has a bonus of 80,000 points after spending $5000 in the first 90 days. These are non-affiliate links.
I love Alaska miles for use on partner airlines like American Airlines and Japan Airlines.
Make sure to first read this post to see if you are eligible for any of these offers: Bank Application Rules. Enjoy your weekend!
