Using IHG Free Night Certificates at Hotel Indigo Downtown Denver – Union Station

August 5, 2025 By Nancy Leave a Comment

I recently took a short trip to Denver and tried a new-to-me hotel: Hotel Indigo Downtown Denver – Union Station.

Booking

My husband and I each own the IHG One Rewards Premier credit card that comes with a free night certificate on the card’s anniversary. Originally, we booked rooms in San Francisco with these free night certs. However, our plans changed, and I found myself needing lodging in Denver.

I’ve stayed in so many different hotels in the Denver area that I feel like I’ve been to them all. But, I’ve barely scratched the surface. For this stay, I decided to try Hotel Indigo Downtown Denver Union Station. We each booked our free night online, but then my husband had to call in to add me as a second guest for his free night since he wouldn’t actually be there. The certificates are only good for hotels that are 40,000 points and under. Due to dynamic pricing, one of my nights was 41,000 and I paid an extra 1000 points on top of the free night cert. I did receive a 600-point welcome bonus when I checked in, so it was almost a wash.

Location and Arrival

Hotel Indigo Downtown Denver – Union Station is located, as the name suggests, very close to Union Station. It’s just a short block away across the street. A large CVS store is also across the street.

My son and I took the train from Denver International Airport to Union Station and walked to the hotel. I paid $10 for an airport day pass for me, and my son was free since he’s under age 19. The hotel’s location is close to many shops and restaurants downtown, including Larimer Square and 16th Street Mall.

The lobby was modern and open with many different seating options:

The image shows a modern, stylish lobby area with wooden walls and a polished concrete floor. There is a seating area with a black sofa, a small side table, and two armchairs around a unique coffee table on a patterned rug. The lighting is warm, and there is a large red artwork on the wall. In the background, there are vending machines, a long table with chairs, and a reception desk. The ceiling has a grid pattern, and the overall ambiance is contemporary and inviting.

The image shows a modern, stylish hotel lobby with a circular seating arrangement in the center. The seating is upholstered in dark blue and striped fabric, surrounded by small tables and additional chairs. The ceiling features a large, circular wooden design with a unique, textured chandelier hanging from the center. The walls are lined with wood paneling, and there are bar stools along the right side. The overall ambiance is warm and inviting, with soft lighting and contemporary decor.

The lobby also had a free popcorn machine, which is a plus in my book.

Our Room

Our two-queen room started with a short hallway that contained a clothes rack on the left and a bathroom to the right:

The image shows a modern bathroom with a large mirror above a sink, which has a wooden vanity with towels stored underneath. There are two bottles of soap or lotion on the counter. A toilet is positioned next to a glass-enclosed shower with a towel hanging on the door. The walls are light-colored, and there is a framed picture hanging above the toilet. The floor is tiled, and there is a small trash bin next to the vanity.

The image shows a hotel room with two neatly made double beds. There is a large window with sheer curtains allowing natural light to enter. A desk with a chair is positioned against the wall, featuring a coffee maker and a lamp. A flat-screen TV is mounted on the wall above the desk. An armchair is placed near the entrance. The room has a modern and clean design.

The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of light (plus a blackout curtain) and outlets next to each bed. From our window, we could look to the left and see some trains.

The only downside to this hotel is that it doesn’t have a free lounge or free breakfast. But, we did eat at the hotel’s restaurant one morning, and it was tasty and not outrageously expensive. Plus, there are so many restaurants and even two grocery stores within walking distance that we were not hurting for food choices.

Overall, we had a good stay here, and I’ll keep this hotel on my short list for future stays in Downtown Denver.
