Last week, I wrote about the changes coming to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and the new Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business card (see this post for all the details). Today, applications are live for both of these cards.
CSR Welcome Bonuses Revealed
As a reminder, the new annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card (non-affiliate link) is now $795. But now we know the welcome bonus is currently 100,000 points + $500 Chase Travel promo credit after spending $5000 in the first three months. I would have preferred a 150k bonus, but Chase didn’t ask for my input. 🙂 Other benefits include an annual $300 Chase Travel credit, IHG Platinum Elite status, $500 credit for The Edit hotel stays, $300 annual dining credit at select restaurants, $300 StubHub credit, Priority Pass, DoorDash DashPass and more.
The new Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business card (non-affiliate link)also has a $795 annual fee. However, the welcome bonus is 200,000 points after spending $30,000 in the first 6 months. Oof, that’s a lot of spending. Card benefits are similar to the personal version with the addition of GoogleWorkspace credit and ZipRecruiter credit.
New Application Rules
The new wording on application rules is a bit wishy-washy. For the personal card:
This credit card is unavailable to you if you currently have one open. The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you currently have any other personal Sapphire cards open, previously held this card or received a new cardmember bonus for this card. We may also consider the number of cards you have opened and closed, as well as other factors in determining your bonus eligibility.
Apparently, Chase now has a pop-up message that will let you know if you qualify for the bonus before you proceed to submit your application. See this post on Doctor of Credit for more information. So in theory, you may be able to have both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. You can also check out this post on reddit to see data points from recent application.
What do you think about the welcome bonuses and new application rules? Are you planning to apply for either of these cards?

Tough decision for me. Would have been easier if the bonus would have been 150 or even 125k. Not sure now which personal card I will apply for. Now just under 5/24 and over 48 months.
@Lynn I understand. 150k bonus on the personal card would have been much more compelling.
