We knew this was coming…today, Chase announced new upcoming changes to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and released information about a new business version of the card.
Changes to Chase Sapphire Reserve Personal Card
The biggest change is the annual fee. For new applications starting June 23, 2025 and for renewals beginning in October 2025, the annual fee is now $795 (up from $550). The cost to add an authorized user is now $195 (up from $75). Ouch! I mean, dang, an annual fee of almost $800. I have no doubt that Amex Platinum is right behind this with an increase in its annual fee coming soon to match this.
So, what do you get for this increase in annual fee? New additional benefits include:
- $500 credit for stays in The Edit hotel collection–2 night minimum stay (Chase’s version of Amex’s Fine Hotel + Resorts hotel collection. Credit is $250 every 6 months)
- IHG Platinum Elite status through December 2027
- $300 annual dining credit ($150 every 6 months) at Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables
- Subscriptions to Apple TV+ and Apple Music through June 2027 (worth $250 annually)
- $300 annual credit for StubHub ($150 every 6 months)
- $120 ($10 per month) Peloton credit
The card retains most of its previous benefits, including a $300 travel credit, Lyft credits and DoorDash credits.
On the points earning side, flights and hotels now earn 4X (up from 3X), while other travel goes down to 1X (was 3X). Travel booked through the Chase travel portal will all earn 8X (was 10X for hotels and 5X for flights).
Spending points for travel is also changing. Instead of getting 1.5 cents per point, points are worth 1-2 cents based on a new Points Boost system. See this page for all the details on the changes.
Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business
The business version of the card will also be available starting June 23, 2025. It is very similar to the personal version, with a $795 annual fee but no additional fees for employee cards.
Some differences:
- Card earns 3X for online advertising
- $400 ZipRecruiter credit
- $200 Google Workspace credit
- $100 Giftcards.com credit
See this page for more information.
My Thoughts on These Changes
The big elephant in the room is…what will the signup bonuses be??? Will we see something big like 150k or 200k? It would have to be that high to impress me.
My husband has the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, and we’ve been happy with it. However, despite the extra credits (i.e. coupons), the higher annual fee is a bit much. I feel like the extra credits will just make us spend money on things we wouldn’t normally spend money on. I guess that’s the point.
Since his card’s anniversary is in September, we will still get almost one more year at the lower annual fee before we need to decide whether or not this card is a keeper.
What are your thoughts?

3x on travel is very valuable. I use it with confidence at places like Viator, Uber, my home toll road system and especially for cruises. Most of my hotel and air spend is done through points or a Hilton or AMEX Plat card. So the CSR will no longer be a good choice for spend in my case. Of all things, the Apple credit has some value for me, but the other new coupons are literally worthless for me—Things I don’t do and have no interest in doing. I spend generously on lots of travel-related stuff, but not on the top dollar hotel and dining used by the customers they seem to target. When the higher AF hits me next year I will downgrade to a CSP to keep my UR alive, and probably to preserve the generous credit limit. But my travel and Restaurant spend will mostly shift to AMEX Green or CITI Premier.
