While I was traveling around Asia the past few weeks, I tried to stay offline as much as possible so that I could maximize my enjoyment of the trip. So, I’ve been playing catch-up with miles and points news from when I was gone. The biggest story that came out, in my opinion, is the Capital One Venture X lounge changes for 2026. ICYMI:
Capital One Venture X Lounge Access Changes
Currently, Capital One Venture X cardholders have excellent lounge benefits for families. Cardholders can bring up to 2 guests into Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass lounges for free. In addition, authorized users on the same account have the same privileges. My husband and I both currently own Venture X cards and my oldest son is an authorized user. So, combined, we are able to bring a total of 9 people into lounges. While we’ve never had that many people, the benefit has certainly come in handy when we travel as a family of 5-6 people.
Well, that gravy train is coming to an end. Starting February 1, 2026, Capital One Venture X cardholders have new rules that negatively affect families:
- Only primary cardholders have free access to Capital One lounges and Priority Pass lounges (no free guests)
- Authorized users can only get free lounge access after paying a $125 annual fee
- You must spend $75k annually on the card to get free access for 2 guests
- Cost for guests: $45 for Capital One lounges ($25 for kids 17 and under) and $35 for Priority Pass lounges
- Similar cuts apply to the Venture X Business card
Obviously, this is a major bummer for cardholders who travel with family. However, I understand the need for the policy. Capital One lounges have become very crowded, and there is almost always a waiting list at the DFW location.
Will I be paying the $125 fee for my son to have access for the year? No, he doesn’t travel enough to justify that. And while I enjoy the lounge. my kids would be happy grabbing fast food in the terminal instead.
Does this change impact my desire to keep the Capital One Venture X card long-term? Honestly, I need to think about it more before I decide.
Readers, what do you think of these changes?

It’s essentially a free card… What do you expect?
We are definitely devastated as well on this – The Venture X has been our go to card for everyday spending and a keeper, in part due to their generous lounge policy.
We haven’t decided if we will keep the card or look for something else
@Dan I feel your pain!
