Note: I’m currently traveling in Asia and will have limited access to the internet. Replies to comments and emails will be delayed.
Blankets, pillows, eye masks, in-flight entertainment screens and snacks can make a long flight more bearable. But, there is one flight amenity that I really don’t care about one way or the other.
Inflight WiFi
Last month, American Airlines announced it would start offering free inflight WiFi starting in 2026 for all AAdvantage loyalty members. Many travelers rejoiced at this news!
I understand that inflight WiFi is very convenient for business travelers who need to use the flight time to keep working. But for me, I couldn’t care less about inflight WiFi.
I already spend too much time on the internet as it is. I actually look forward to disconnecting for a while during trips. The online break enables me to more easily:
- Read
- Sleep
- Think
- Watch new content on seat-back IFE screen
I’m afraid if I got on the internet on a long flight, I’d stay up the whole time scrolling aimlessly through social media and videos instead of relaxing and resting.
My kids, on the other hand, would gladly be online the entire flight. Of course, that means they for sure wouldn’t get any sleep and would definitely be crankier at our final destination.
Are you excited about free inflight WiFi? Or, is there another flight amenity you could live without?

Different preferences here 🙂 I couldn’t care less about the in-flight entertainment system – I never use it. I love having wi-fi so I can read various blogs I follow, stream music etc.
