I don’t normally write about shocking travel stories. But this one is all over my social media feeds since it’s local-ish to me.
Yesterday, there was a brawl in Carnival’s Galveston cruise port terminal as passengers were collecting their luggage at the end of a 7-night cruise on Carnival Jubilee:
Carnival’s statement to Cruise Hive about the incident: “The incident occurred in the debarkation area under the authority of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. The matter has been turned over to law enforcement. We will not tolerate such behavior, and 24 people have been placed on our Do Not Sail list. They can go on another cruise line if they want but are never welcome back with us.“
This fight happened just a few days after an incident on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas, where a man was beaten over a dispute in an elevator.
Is Cruising Safe?
Incidences like these give cruising a bad rap. It’s very unfortunate, since cruising is one of my favorite types of travel.
My family has sailed on Disney, Royal Caribbean, MSC, Carnival and Holland America with no major issues with fighting on board. However, there were a few more minor squabbles on our Carnival cruise out of Miami that we witnessed from afar. When you mix alcohol with late nights, things happen.
From my experience, it’s easy to avoid drama on cruise ships. These altercations won’t prevent me from booking future cruises.
