On my trip to Hong Kong last month, my daughter and I stayed 3 nights at Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui in the Kowloon area of Hong Kong. A reader gifted me one of her club lounge access awards to add to my reservation (many thanks!). The hotel’s location and plentiful free food from the lounge made for a convenient stay.
Location and Check-in
I picked Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui because of its proximity to Victoria Harbour and Avenue of Stars (about a 10-minute walk). It’s also connected to a mall that has a plethora of restaurants. We didn’t discover until our last day that we could actually walk all the way to Victoria Harbour via the underground passageways connected to the MTR station.
The hotel is a World of Hyatt Category 4 hotel, which costs 15,000 points during regular season dates.
The taxi drop-off is in a lower level garage. We had to take an elevator up to get to the street level and the lobby (on level 3).
The lobby on Level 3 was bright but lacked seating areas except for a few uncomfortable benches.
Our check-in process was a bit of a confusing, lost-in-translation experience. I stood in the World of Hyatt line for Discoverists, Explorists and Globalists. The desk agent was wearing a mask, spoke softly and we had trouble understanding each other. This is to be expected when visiting a foreign country where I don’t speak the language!
Our room wasn’t ready, so I asked if we could wait in the Club Lounge for a bit. This really confused the agent, as she said I didn’t have enough status for the lounge. So I explained my Club Loung Access certificate that was attached to my reservation, and eventually she used her key card to get us to the right floor on the elevator for the Club Lounge.
The lounge was two levels with sweeping views of the city and Victoria Harbour.
We left the hotel to explore the city before returning to enter our room when it was ready later in the day.
Our Room at Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui
Our room on the 19th floor had two twin beds and a view of the city/harbour:
The room was larger than I expected.
Bathrobes in the closet:
The bathroom was also quite large, with a bath tub and shower.
The beds were comfortable, and there were phone charging cords on the nightstand. The desk also had multiple outlets. Really nothing to complain about with our room.
Club Lounge Access
Having club lounge access was a real boon at this hotel. With that access, we could have breakfast in the club lounge or free breakfast in one of the restaurants. On our first morning, we opted to eat in the restaurant. There was a huge buffet with every kind of Western and Chinese food you could dream of.
Local pastries, noodles, soup, and even a candy bar.
We were absolutely stuffed after breakfast. The next two mornings, we opted to have breakfast in the club lounge. While the buffet was smaller, it really had everything we needed.
Plus, we could order eggs and noodles.
One evening, we went to the lounge for hors d’oeuvres and made a nice dinner out of the offerings. Salad, cheese, noodles, dumplings….no shortage of good choices.
Other Hotel Amenities
The hotel has 3 restaurants and a bar, but we didn’t explore them. We also did not use the rooftop pool or fitness center. We spent most of our time out and about exploring the city.
Final Thoughts
Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui is a solid choice for a visit to Hong Kong. The location is hard to beat. Plus, you can use a free night certificate from the World of Hyatt credit card to stay here or points transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards. If you don’t have Globalist status, I recommend getting Club Lounge access by finding someone who has an extra lounge pass to gift you or by paying extra points or cash. The free food included with lounge access is hard to beat.
