Where we’re spending our IHG free night certificates

November 5, 2024 By Nancy 2 Comments

Last month, I shared where my husband and I are spending our Chase World of Hyatt credit card free night certificates (see this post). This month, our free night certificates from our Chase IHG credit cards arrived. We pay a $99 annual fee in exchange for a free night at an IHG property that costs 40,000 points or less. So far, we’ve come out ahead every year. In the past, we’ve used our free night certificates to stay in Geneva, Hamburg, Cape Canaveral and more.

My husband and son have plans to visit San Francisco for a tennis event next year. Hotels in San Francisco aren’t cheap! I’m glad I had these two free night certificates to help offset the cost. I had the option of a few hotels that were 40k points or under, of I could book a more expensive hotel and use more IHG points on top of the free night certs. I chose to book InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco.a screenshot of a phone

It’s in a convenient location for their event, and the price for each night was exactly 40k IHG points. The cash price for 2 nights is almost $700 all-in. But, because we’re using our free night certificates, our total cash outlay is $265.68 ($99 annual fee X 2 plus two nights of destination fee with tax). Not free, but but certainly a big discount for staying in a prime location in San Francisco.

We recently stayed at the new IC & Kimpton Santo in San Antonio. The Santo is the new Kimpton flagship. Both lovely, I think you’d also enjoy!

@Pam Thanks for the recommendations! San Antonio is one of my favorite cities that we return to every few years.
