Earlier this year, a blog reader, who is a World of Hyatt Globalist, offered me one of her available Hyatt Guest of Honor certificates to use on a future Hyatt stay. I gladly accepted! The Guest of Honor certificate enabled me to have World of Hyatt Globalists perks for my Hyatt stay including an upgraded room, free breakfast, 4 p.m.checkout and more.
I redeemed the certificate online for a stay at Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center a few weeks ago. On past trips to Denver, my family has stayed at the nearby Grand Hyatt Denver, so I was curious how the Hyatt Regency would compare. Both are Category 4 hotels, and standard rooms are bookable for 12,000-18,000 points per night.
Location and Arrival
For some crazy reason (cheap points price), I had booked me and my son on a 6 a.m. flight from DFW to Denver. So early! We landed a bit after 7:00 a.m. local time. We took the RTD train from the airport to Downtown Union Station (youth 19 and under ride free through August). From Union Station, we took the Free MallRide Bus to within a block of the hotel.
Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center is, as the name suggests, located across the street from the Colorado Convention Center. There are many walkable restaurants nearby as well as shops and a movie theatre.
Unfortunately, at the moment, Downtown Denver is a big construction mess. The streets surrounding the hotel were blocked off, so we had to walk around some barricades to get to the entrance.
The lobby was large and bright with plenty of seating space.
Since at this point it was still early in the morning, our room wasn’t ready yet. The desk agent told me I could pay an extra $30 to get into the room before 10:00 a.m. We were so tired from the early flight that I agreed. We waited in the lobby (snoozed a bit), but our room wasn’t ready until 11:00ish.
Colorado King Suite
I booked a standard room, but due to Guest of Honor status, Hyatt upgraded us to a Colorado King Suite.
It was a large room with a separate living room and bedroom (but no door).
The sofa converted to a sofa bed. However, since those usually aren’t comfortable, I requested a rollaway for my son:
The room had a long counter with sink, microwave, refrigerator:
The bathroom:
It was nice having all the extra space!
Hyatt Regency Denver Dining and Amenities
I was disappointed to learn that the Regency Lounge never re-opened after Covid. But, Guest of Honor status entitled us to free breakfast at the downstairs restaurant.
We could either have the breakfast buffet or order from the menu. My son and I both had the buffet each morning. There were plenty of food offerings.
There is also a lounge/bar on the 27th floor, but I did not get a chance to check it out it during its open hours.
One afternoon, I explored the hotel’s other amenities. The fitness center is large with a lot of equipment:
The hotel also has an indoor pool:
There is an outside deck with a hot tub:
Overall Thoughts
I enjoyed our stay at Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. Although I haven’t stayed at the nearby Grand Hyatt Denver since pre-covid years, I prefer the light and airy spaces of the Hyatt Regency over the the Grand Hyatt. Getting a free suite upgrade and free breakfast with the Guest of Honor certificate was a nice treat. Huge thank you to the blog reader who gifted me the Guest of Honor benefits!

I stayed here two years ago. Like most Hyatt hotels. It was fine. Just fine. Great location, nice amenities, and I loved the lap pool. But the room… do they still have the sheets that feel like plastic? And despite being on the 8th floor, I was woken up by the sirens in the street many times thanks to the windows that were as thin as saran wrap.
Nancy says
@projectx I didn’t notice the sheets being uncomfortable, and so many streets were blocked off for construction downtown that I didn’t hear any street noise. It might be a different story when the construction is over.

So never heard of paying a fee to check in early although I have paid a fee to check out late

@Boonie Same! I figured getting a room early to sleep for $30 wasn’t a bad option. But, we ended up snoozing in the lobby and still got into the room around 11:00 for no extra fee.
