Southwest Companion Pass
Using Southwest Rapid Rewards points to book award flights is very easy. There are no blackout dates, and you can change or cancel award flights with no penalties.
But perhaps the greatest benefit is the Southwest Companion Pass. This pass allows you to take a companion with you on your flights for FREE (just pay taxes for the flight which are normally $5.60 each way for domestic flights). Your companion flies free with you on paid flights AND on award flights! My family has earned a few companion passes in the past, and they were very useful for my large family.
To earn a Southwest Companion Pass, you must earn 135,000 points in a calendar year. With the above credit cards, if you spend $15k in the first 9 months, you would have enough points for a Southwest Companion Pass.
