Is Amex more generous on approvals?, new transfer bonus and more

Has Amex become more generous on credit card approvals? My husband and another person I know were both approved for the Amex Gold card (with 90k bonus from referrals) in the past week. Both had been getting the Amex pop-up message for years. If you have been discouraged with denials from Amex over the past few years, it might be worth trying to apply again, especially if the app has the “Apply with confidence” section that doesn’t ding your credit report unless you get approved and accept the card.
