Review: Pendry Chicago booked through Capital One Premier Collection Hotels

March 19, 2024 By Nancy 4 Comments

Before my daughter and I jetted off to Portugal, we spent two nights in Chicago at Pendry Chicago. I typically use points to stay at Hyatt, IHG, Marriott or Hilton properties. But, when a deal came up a few months ago for $200 off Capital One Premier Collection Hotels (see this post, although deal is no longer valid), I booked two nights at Pendry Chicago with our Venture X cards for around $50 a night. Plus, we would get these benefits:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • Potential room upgrade
  • Early check-in and late check-out (if available)
  • $100 experience credit (to use on food, spa, etc.)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • 10X Capital One miles on booking

Hard to beat that price and benefits!

Location, Building, Lobby

Pendry Chicago is in a great location, right on Michigan Avenue. The hotel is located in the 1929 Art Deco Carbide and Carbon building.

I loved the look of the building and the lobby area.

But I especially loved the elevators. So classy!

Since we arrived late at night, there was no wait to check in. My daughter received her choice of plush animal as a welcome gift.

Our Room

Our room had two queen beds and was more spacious than I expected.

The room had plenty of outlets and USB charging portals.

The bathroom:

a bathroom with a sink and toilet

a white bathtub with a white curtain and black shower curtain

The best surprise was the macarons on each bed for the nightly turndown service:

And, the welcome gift that included a box of chocolates:

a paper and a box on a desk

Overall, the room was great and we slept like babies on the comfortable beds. We did take advantage of the late checkout on our last day (just one hour).

Food

Our breakfast credit for two was good for $60 each morning, and we could eat at either the French restaurant or order room service.

The breakfast menu at the restaurant was fairly limited, so we opted for room service.

Pancakes with a side of bacon and an omelette with toast came to $90 with tip. Thankfully, I was able to use my $100 experience credit to cover the overage from breakfast both days.

Pendry Chicago also has a rooftop bar that I did not experience.

Overall Thoughts

Pendry Chicago is not the type of hotel I usually stay in. It’s definitely fancier. You can’t use traditional hotel points to stay there. But, it was such a nice treat for us during our short trip to Chicago. The Capital One benefits through our Capital One Venture X card (and booking through the Capital One travel portal) helped offset the expensive food costs. I recommend Pendry Chicago for a special occasion stay when you want to feel pampered.

What a neat hotel! And what a deal you got. I was very sad that I couldn’t take advantage of this promo.

That used to be a Hard Rock Hotel but didn’t realize they had changed it. Very good location!
