I’m in the process of catching up on some miles and points news that I missed last week while I was in Europe. One of the biggest stories is about transfer partner changes with Bilt Rewards. Since I just got the Bilt Rewards Mastercard last month, I’m paying attention to these changes.
American Airlines Out
Bilt will no longer offer points transfers to American Airlines beginning in June 2024. A specific end date has not yet been announced.
I am disappointed in this announcement because one of the main reasons I got the Bilt card was for the transfers to American Airlines. I’ve had great luck with Web Special Awards on AA. Plus, I’m hoping to use AA miles to fly to Japan next year.
I’m crossing my fingers that this change won’t happen until the end of June. I’m not sure I want to transfer points speculatively to AA if it goes away sooner.
Alaska Airlines Added
It’s not all bad news. Last week, Bilt added Alaska Airlines as an additional 1:1 transfer partner. Bilt is the first major rewards currency to offer transfers to Alaska Airlines.
So, I can actually transfer Bilt points to Alaska (instead of AA) to fly to Japan. But, I can’t use Alaska miles for AA Web Special Awards.
What do you think of these changes?

I’m actually MORE interested in Bilt now! Since i live on the west coast and am NOT an American Airlines fan, Alaska is a much better option for me.

I am in SD and got economy on AA but flying JAL direct. Out in economy for 35000 miles and back in business for 60000. Very happy!
