One of the great things about writing a blog is the blog comment section on every post. Leana and I love hearing from readers who ask questions or share experiences with us. We’ve gotten to know many of our readers through these blog comments and email correspondence.
But, while we appreciate constructive criticism and pushback on subjects, some of the comments we get are rude, sarcastic and/or funny. Some comments are so bad (racist or horrible language) that we delete them.
To commemorate the end of 2023, here are some of the rudest/funniest blog comments of this past year that didn’t get deleted:
“So it would be great if you actually posted something helpful.”
“Your story makes no sense.”
“Why do you use so many exclamation points?”
“All bloggers skip over this very important point because it does not help to promote credit card referrals.”
“Old news.”
“So the misses were hot dogs and ice cream………..canceling my next RCL cruise, thanks for the heads up.”
“First the kids then the MIL. Not really relevant.”
“Some stories you should keep to yourself.”
“Why don’t you just pony up and have a nice FAMILY vacation?”
“This leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.”
“You are clearly trying to poo poo on everybody’s excitement because it’s not ideal for your situation.”

I think anonymity gives people some freedom. I live in a town of 8,000, so you see the same people over and over whether you know their names or not. Sometimes I want to say something not so nice because a clerk is doing something incorrectly or has a poor attitude, but I know that will reflect more on me than them and I decide to keep it to myself. It goes back to what my mom said to me as a child, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.” I enjoy most of your posts. Some don’t fit my travel style, but I keep coming back. Happy New Year!

@ArkansasTraveler For sure, anonymity makes people say things they wouldn’t if their name was attached. Thanks for being a loyal reader!

There’s never a reason to be disrespectful even if you have a different point or view.
However when bloggers delete comments simply because the person isn’t a fanboy/girl of their article, I usually stop reading.
I like this blog because I can relate to the content and you all are respectful and leave comments in place even if one disagrees.
When bloggers only want to entertain their “cheerleaders” it’s no longer a blog worth reading in my opinion.
Nancy says
@2808 Heavy I understand. It would be nice if everyone was a cheerleader, but honestly sometimes the mean comments make me laugh.

Sorry for all the rude people. Your blog is the one I can identify with the most. I really enjoy your posts. Keep up the good work.
Nancy says
Thank you, Hilde. We appreciate you! Those negative blog comments just come with the territory, unfortunately, and they are why many bloggers choose to remove comments altogether or moderate comments.
