If you’ve been around the miles and points world for a while, you know that one thing is for certain: Award prices will keep going up. Just like regular inflation, the price of award travel is always going up.
But even though I expect it, I was still bummed to learn of this latest travel award increase.
British Airways Flights on American Airlines and Alaska Airlines
According to Award Wallet, British Airways made changes to the price of flights on AA and Alaska Airlines with no notice. Short flights that used to cost 7500 Avios are now 8250 Avios. Flights that used to cost 9000 Avios are now 11,000 Avios. All award tiers have a slight increase, including Business/First Class awards. You can see a comparison of the new vs. old chart on Travel on Points.
These price increases are not the end of the world. The flights still cost less booking on British Airways than they do using AA miles. But, it’s just annoying that increases keep happening and that this one wasn’t announced. It would have been nice to have a warning that the increase would start on a certain date so that we could book some flights before the increase.
Rubbish, indeed!

Qatar had similar (identical) pricing for short haul business. Wonder if the follow suit with BA.
I have my eye on the new Alaska and Finnair changes in 2024.
