My husband and I each own the Capital One Venture X credit card. One of the benefits that offsets the card’s $395 annual fee is a $300 credit for travel booked through the Capital One travel portal. For frequent travelers, it’s easy to effectively utilize this travel credit for flights or hotels not covered by traditional miles and points.
And, now the travel credit is even easier to use. Instead of getting it back as a statement credit, it automatically applies to the first $300 of travel you book in the portal. Easy!
To spend your travel credit, simply click on Rewards in your online account, and then click on Book a Trip:
Spending the Venture X Travel Credit
I wish I could tell you that my husband and I are spending our travel credits on some magnificent stay somewhere. But no, we’re being practical. We’re using part of our $300 credits on two hotel rooms near the Lisbon Airport on the last night of our upcoming Portugal trip. We will be driving back into Lisbon from the coast, and our flight leaves early in the morning. We booked the most convenient hotel for that night.
Before I booked the rooms in the Capital One travel portal, I made sure that the price in the portal was equal or very similar to the price of booking the hotel directly. It was. So, I made the bookings. The credit was applied instantly, and we did not have to pay anything.
We each still have some of our $300 credit left. I have a few ideas for where we will spend the balance: Cheap flights to Denver, a hotel in Madrid or a hotel in Denver. I’ll figure that out another day. We have until early November 2024 to spend the remaining amount.
Bottom Line
When you have a credit card with an annual fee, make sure you are using all of the card’s benefits to offset the fee. The Capital One Venture X $300 annual travel credit is easy to use, so take note of your travel credit’s expiration date.
