Putting a bow on a concert trip present thanks to miles and points

November 21, 2023 By Nancy 1 Comment

Note: I am currently traveling and may not be able to respond to comments or emails immediately.

Earlier this year, I wrote this post: Have miles, will travel to rock concerts??? My son had been begging to go see one of his favorite bands, but they were not coming to Dallas. And, based on the large number of trips we already had planned in 2023, we decided not to open the concert trip can of worms.

My husband and I were pretty sure that this band (which I’m not going to mention in case someone accidentally spoils the surprise) would schedule a concert in Dallas in 2024. But, last month, their summer concert tour schedule came out, and Dallas isn’t on the list. Huge bummer!

So, since our son is moving on to college in 2 years and I feel like time is flying by, I decided to buy tickets for a show in another city and wrap it up as a Christmas present.

Picking the City

Most of the concert tour locations are on the two coasts. But my choice was pretty easy: Denver.

I grew up in Denver, and my family has traveled there numerous times. It’s an easy, short flight from Dallas. I haven’t yet purchased award flights, but I’ll either use AA miles, British Airways Avios (to fly on American Airlines), Southwest points or book a cheap flight with Frontier or Spirit through a credit card travel portal.

Denver also has several reasonably-priced Hyatt hotels. I plan to book a Category 2 Hyatt Place with free breakfast.

Why haven’t I booked the flights and hotel yet? I’m actually working on a big award redemption for a different trip, and I’m waiting to see which currencies I have left after this big redemption.

But regardless, my son will be opening up this present under the tree. He will be so excited!

Are you putting a miles and points trip under the tree this year?
